Improving survival rates from sudden cardiac arrest is a key priority for the Heart Foundation. In Health for Every Heart, our recently released 25-year vision for heart health in Australia, we have set out a target of increasing out-of-hospital cardiac arrest survival rates from 10% to 30% over the next 25 years.
Over the last few years, we have worked closely with Heart of the Nation to raise awareness of the importance of bystander CPR and AED accessibility. Both organisations share a strong commitment to improving survival rates from cardiac arrest in Australia.
From 1 June 2025, Heart of the Nation will become a flagship program within the Heart Foundation, ensuring the continuation and expansion of the life-saving legacy that Heart of the Nation has built over the last 5 years. By becoming a flagship program within the Heart Foundation, this will give Heart of the Nation’s programs access to the national reach and expertise of the Heart Foundation, helping to improve bystander CPR rates throughout Australia.
Heart of the Nation staff will join the Heart Foundation from 1 May 2025, and Heart of the Nation will formally wind up their operations by the end of June 2025. The Heart Foundation will then work with the new staff and the wider Heart Foundation team to expand relevant programs and campaigns across the country.

More details will be coming soon on the new flagship Heart of the Nation program, and how we will continue this life-saving work to improve survival from cardiac arrest right across Australia.
