“I’ve had the amazing experience of being given so much in life, and here I am, wanting to continue this giving and receiving cycle into the future,” says Phillip, reflecting on his decision leave a gift in his Will to support the Heart Foundation.
For Phillip, giving back to the community has been a consistent theme throughout his life.
From the earliest stages of his career as a science teacher beginning in 1967, right through to his founding of the Sydney Walk, Eat and Talk (SWEAT) Heart Foundation walking group in 2013, Phillip has shared his love of the great outdoors with students and peers alike.
His love for nature, sparked by early holidays in the Blue Mountains, has been a lifelong passion and this connection to nature has greatly contributed to his physical and mental well-being. Reflecting on his walks, Phillip says “I really feel alive when I’m out in nature,” evident in his dedication to teaching and his passion for walking.
The Heart Foundation’s history of promoting healthy living strongly resonated with Phillip, and he was particularly impressed by the Heart Foundation’s work in reducing rheumatic heart disease in Aboriginal communities, a cause close to his heart after having witnessed a close colleague pass away from the disease at a young age.
Phillip’s decision to leave a gift in his will to the Heart Foundation stems from his gratitude for a fulfilling life and his desire to continue supporting causes that promote health and wellbeing.
In Phillip’s own words, “I’m confident that the Heart Foundation will continue to do many, many good things in promoting healthy living in Australia.”
