Whilst our work has had a major impact on the survival rates of those suffering a heart attack and those living with heart disease, we will not be satisfied until it is completely eradicated. The role of the Board is to provide strategic oversight and direction for the Heart Foundation’s activities and ensure that those organisational activities are directed towards achieving its vision of an Australia free of heart disease and its mission to prevent heart disease and improve the heart health and quality of life of all Australians through our work in prevention, support and care and research.
The Heart Foundation is developing a 25-year vision; this initiative is known as Vision 2050. Coronary heart disease remains the leading cause of death in Australia — accounting for over 17,000 deaths each year.
