My research is driven by clinically relevant problems of patients suffering from cardiovascular diseases (CVDs). My 1st theme focuses on advanced functional/molecular imaging technologies. Current clinical diagnostic imaging usually provides anatomical readouts only after irreversible damage & structural changes have occurred. I will conjugate antibodies onto contrast agents to target biomarkers of CVDs & explore a range of imaging modalities for more sensitive molecular imaging readouts. My 2nd theme focuses on side-effect-free targeted drugs for prophylaxis & therapy. Clot-busting drugs are associated with bleeding complications, thereby limiting their wider clinical use. I will develop a range of antibody-drug fusion constructs for targeted drug delivery. My final theme focuses on biomaterials & nanoparticles that will home the mRNA strategies to the diseased sites. These innovative approaches address current challenges in prophylaxis, diagnosis & therapy in CVDs. Their translation promises major clinical benefits to patients.
